PeopleTools 8.50 App Server Location

In installing PeopleTools 8.50/HCM91, I noticed that PeopleTools began placing its Application Server configuration files in a different location.  Instead of finding them in %PS_HOME%/appserv, I found them at %USERPROFILE%\psft\pt\.  The culprit appears to be the PS_CFG_HOME environment variable. I found the documentation for this on page 30 of the Enterprise PeopleTools 8.50 Installation [...]

Page Assembler Strips Empty Elements -- This is Good!

With the new release of PeopleTools and Enterprise Portal, I find myself modifying my old branding themes to incorporate new features. While testing a header, I noticed that it appeared correctly on homepages, but not on transaction pages. Upon further inspection, I noticed that certain HTML elements I included in my HTML definition appeared on homepages, but not on transaction pages.

Exec Processes while Controlling stdin and stdout

A few months ago I read a question on the ITToolbox PeopleTools-I forum asking if it was possible to read the output of a spawned process. Unfortunately this is not possible with the delivered PeopleCode Exec function. I got to thinking about this though, and I wondered if it was possible to accomplish this by using Java's Runtime object from PeopleCode. The answer is yes. To test this, create a

Installing PeopleSoft Today

I'm going to do a PeopleSoft Install today.  It'll be PeopleTools 8.48, Financials 8.9 on SQL Server 2005 and Windows 2003 to a server in the Amazon cloud. I know these are old versions but I need a machine that matches a client's current state config, and the installation basics haven't changed that much anyway.

I set up a Go To meeting that you can join if you'd like to "look over my shoulder" and ask questions.  Feel free to drop in and out as you get time.  I'll record it for posterity in case you miss it.
